Nothing More American than Gambling: Data Driven Casino Night

After last year’s scandal at Casino Night, Data Driven master teacher Bowman Dickson suggested through a poster that he would be the “eye in the sky” at this year’s Casino Night. This alludes to his plan that any group that pools starbursts together (which were used as an equivalent to chips or money) would be humiliated and kicked out. Things were made certain to be fair for all at Casino Night this year.

“The goal is to make the most profitable game and to see which is the most fun,” declared Bowman. The Data Driven class’ main objective when going into Casino Night was to make a profit of starbursts and have the house win.

Casino Night attendees Charlie Coffin and Josh Godin, both in North house and the Data Driven class, set the ASP record for most profitable game. Each table started with 100 starbursts and either collected starbursts if the players lost or gave out starbursts if the players won.

Charlie and Josh managed to collect a grand total of 524 starbursts, making an impressive profit of 424 starbursts.

The game they ran was “Dice Roulette” and the probability to win was incredibly low. However, their approach to attract visitors was less in the statistics of the game and more in the hospitality of their hearts.

“Once you sit down, you can stay as long as you want,” Josh announced to customers waiting in line to play Dice Roulette.

As the night progressed, it was clear to the gamblers which game would yield the most Starbursts, “The Golden Slice”, a luck based spin-the-wheel game that turned into a shower of Starbursts for the customers.

Attendees Luke Freeman of North and Janessa Pilotte of Ford had to limit the amount of Starbursts gamblers were allowed to bet to 10 because so many kids were doubling high numbers by manipulating the game.

Towards the end of the night, the VIP lounge (a place gamblers visited when they had earned 50 starbursts or more) was filled with engineers advocating The Golden Slice. Nicolas Morales of Middle, Jay Hayes of Middle, Alianna Braley of Warren, and Ally Lloyd of Waren, were all winners from The Golden Slice who occupied the VIP lounge.

“If you flicked the spinner just the right way, you could land on the golden slice,” Ally remarked. Spinning The Golden Slice provided each visitor at the game with a large sum of Starbursts.

Winner of Casino Night, Eamonn Ryan, residing in Drury and studying Mass Media, had a grand total of 283 starbursts. Coincidentally, Eamonn’s Mass Media intern, Devin McGrath-Conwell, was also the intern of last year’s Forbidden Fictions students who commited the Casino Night scandal. Could it be that Devin is behind Eamonn’s victory?
